FRAISA Annual Report 20/21

The new SX technology For highest performance and productivity A clear trend in the market was decisive for the development of the new SX technology: corrosion-resistant steels with high chromium and nickel contents are clearly gaining ground as materials. The demanding processing of these materials pres- ents new challenges to our customers every day. Therefore, for FRAISA, it was a declared development goal to be able to guarantee the highest competitiveness in terms of perfor- mance, tool life and process reliability with the SX milling cut- ters. At the same time, a broad processing spectrum should be covered and a remarkable universality offered. The motivation of the FRAISA product developers was cor- respondingly high: with teamwork and innovative spirit, new performance horizons were reached. Cutting values perfect- ly suited to the application were the key to success. This de- manded no less than to surpass all previously realized technol- ogies. In order to determine the status quo, a comprehensive competitive analysis was carried out using 35 tools of market competitors. Highest competitiveness through sound tool technology A very edge-strength fine-grain carbide with excellent wear properties forms the basis of SX high-performance tools. The combination of the positive, light-cutting geometry, optimized spiral flutes and a rising tool core offers high-class arguments such as optimal chip formation, good chip evacuation and high tool stability. In their application, the SX tools must withstand high mechan- ical and thermal loads. Therefore, the exposed cutter angle has been designed to be particularly robust with a special tooth grinding and a small corner radius. The high-performance DURO-SI coating also contributes to the success of the con- cept by protecting against high temperature loads – thus, high resistance to wear, maximum performance and a long service life are guaranteed. Due to the excellent suitability for HPC and HDC machining, the SX cutters cover a wide range of applica- tions and materials. Application expertise for optimal results The availability of high-quality cutting data is becoming in- creasingly important in the course of digitalization, because it significantly increases the efficiency and safety of machining processes. Here, FRAISA also sets new standards with the SX product development: entirely newly developed performance cutting data for stainless steels, which were validated in the chipping process, complete the SX concept.
