FRAISA Annual Report 20/21
Aluminum high-performance milling AX New horizons for quality and process reliability A special customer request provided the starting signal for the development phase of the AX technology at FRAISA: the avia- tion industry was looking for an optimal solution for finishing thin component walls. Since the manufacturing of integral and precision aluminum components is very complex and often requires post-processing, there was also a high potential for optimization for other customers. Our team of experts was im- mediately aware that the development of such tools would re- quire completely new approaches – several patent applications were to follow and prove the colleagues right. Outstanding component quality thanks to revolutionary support chamfer technology The core technology of the new AX high-performance finish- ing cutter is the already patented and now further developed support chamfer technology. The narrow, highly polished chamfer behind the cutting edge changes variably from the face to the shell and provides for an excellent damping of the machining process. Brilliant and dimensionally accurate sur- faces are guaranteed by the smooth running of the milling cut- ter. Now, for the first time, it is possible to finish very thin, tall or long aluminum components in one pass (“One Shot”), which significantly reduces the machining time compared to conventional layer finishing. Subsequent manual grinding operations to reduce the milled offsets can be eliminated completely and it is possible to mill holes of the highest quality and accuracy. With deep and tolerated pockets with small transition radii, the AX technology also achieves high accuracy in machine components. The result is component quality on an unprece- dented level. AX: Highest performance achieves inspiring results The combined use of long roughing and finishing tools with new machining strategies achieve exciting results. Here, the program strategy and the appropriate cutting data are key elements: these important insights have already been gained during product development and are available to customers in the FRAISA ToolExpert ® for optimal implementation. In training courses and online seminars our experts impart valuable knowledge for the fast integration of the AX tech- nology in the operations of the customers. This creates a knowledge transfer that is essential for the successful use of these high-performance products. The AX technology was de- veloped together with our customers – all the more we are pleased about the excellent feedback on the tools and the ap- plication technology.
